New start: Scrappy Mountains Majesty

My previous quilt finished, I was at loose ends.  What to do?  I thought about squares I had cut for a project over 10 years ago, and sought them out.  And searched and searched.  Finally I unearthed a set of 8.5 inch squares prepped for Scrappy Mountain Majesties by Bonnie Hunter, found on her Free patterns page.  I had even printed out the instructions!

Mostly green and light neutral fabrics, a few reds, and I think I was thinking of a Christmas quilt.  Well, not much red, so let's sew up some green and white blocks:

Now, they are not sewn together yet.  I have tried two layouts of the blocks and I like this one.
This pattern works up nicely but I would recommend:
1. reading through the directions all the way, carefully,
2. and making a test block or two, being sure you know the method.

I had no problems, but I was glad I made a test block before starting making the blocks two at a time.  I'll continue on these blocks this week and next, and it looks like I have enough squares cut for a lap quilt.

Corner Kick quilt is done

Welcome to my blog!
I started this project on the last day of 2019 - sewing strips and crosscutting them.  I blogged about it in this post.
The pattern is from Gray Barn Designs, and is an interesting take on jelly roll quilts:
https://graybarndesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Corner-Kick-06-06-19.pdf

It is now quilted and bound:

Tropical batik jelly rolls strips, accented in yellow.  I did not have enough of that yellow for binding, so bought a closely matching batik for binding.  Back is a purple swirling print.  I have quilted it in straight lines in the ditch on my trusty old Kenmore sewing machine - about all I can manage as I never got the hang of free motion quilting.

A close-up:

It is about 50 by 60 inches. so a lap sized quilt.  No home or use for it right now, but maybe something will come to me.

Continuing project: Red and white log cabin top

At some point last year, long before all the corona virus, I saw a red and white log cabin quilt pictured on Facebook.  If I could remember who made it, or who on Facebook posted it, I would gladly acknowledge them.  Alas, I did not write it down.  I did save my inspiration photo however:

Not an antique but with that antique look.  I busily cut strips of red and white fabrics.  I may have added to my stash with selected purchases.  😄  My blog post outlining my start is here.

Yellow centers, not 9 patches, no pink, just red and white fabrics:

Laid out on the design floor, some blocks sewn together:

This will keep me occupied for awhile!  The logs finish at 1 inch, the blocks are 10 inches square, and the quilt will be 70 by 90 inches.  I made 64 blocks, initially planning on a set of 8 blocks by 8 blocks, but 7 by 9 blocks works better on a bed.  No borders for this project, just a scrappy red binding.

Film at Five is now a top

First off, this pattern is from the blog of Wedding Dress Blue, and I have had my eye on it for some time.
The start of this project is described in this post.
Continuing on is described in this post.
Well in this time of COVID-19 I soldiered on and finished all the sashing, used up almost all my unbleached muslin on hand, and now have a top:

In my messy sewing corner of the basement.

A closeup of the vintage feedsack and other fabrics:

I used 2 inch squares to start, so each square is 1.5 inches finished.  Whew!  It turned out a bit bigger than I had initially planned.
Now to decide about quilting it: myself on my trusty domestic machine?  Or sent it out to a local long-arm quilter?  Well I will decide later.
This top is now off my 'design floor' and a set of red and white log cabin blocks has taken its place.
