Tuesday Quilt Block Dec. 2

Well the flurry of activity from the Thanksgiving holidays is over! Now the flurry of craziness leading up to Christmas begins.

In the meantime, let me share with you a Tuesday Quilt block.

This is the Jane Stickle block called Farm Fields.  Alas, it is the last of the Jane blocks I made some time ago, so I'll have to share another project next Tuesday ( or start one - ha!).  I now have 56 in a box in my sewing room, waiting to be put together.  Isn't that always the case, another UFO (unfinished object)?

I am linking up with Connie at Freemotion by the River and Quilt Story as I do most weeks I have blocks to share. Both blog hops have pictures of pretty quilt blocks and other projects. I am also joining Work in Progress Wednesday - some colorful and interesting projects there!

Tuesday Quilt Block Nov. 18

A slow morning at chez Viridian. My children had yesterday off for only a slight reason (messy roads, that soon got better) and this morning they are on a two hour delay. ???? It's very cold, and some wet roads have frozen over I guess, but really.  I am moving slow too.

It's Tuesday, and time for a quilt block.  I don't have many left from this burst of activity some months ago.

A simple hole in the barn door block, finishing at 4.5 inches.  And this too is 1930's reproduction fabric.

Tuesday Quilt Block Nov. 11

Well it turned out October was a very busy month for me, with a large out of town professional meeting among many other things.  I have neglected this little blog.  But I am back again with a Tuesday quilt block.

Another block in the style of Jane Stickle.  Oops, you can see threads and my seams!

Tuesday Quilt Block October 7

October is here with changing leaves, some rain, and a bit of fog.

It looks like a busy month ahead for me.  Without any delay, here is the next Tuesday Quilt Block.

Another in my line of Jane Stickle blocks.  This 1930's reproduction quilt is growing bigger!

Tuesday quilt Block Sept. 30

I can't believe that September has flown by so quickly! It seems time is flowing more quickly this year than ever before.  It was a beautiful month, and October, with leaf-changing, seems poised to be beautiful too.

Our block this Tuesday is another Jane Stickle block:

I do not recall the name of this block but it looks like a classic.

The fabric used is one of the earliest ever made by Judie Rothermel for the Aunt Grace line.  I have had fat quarters sitting in a drawer for over 20 years.  The fabric is just like new.

Tuesday Quilt Block September 23

Yet another busy week for me!
Fall approaches; the leaves are turning.
Tuesday morning - time for another quilt block.

Another Jane Stickle block, finishing at 4.5 inches, but I am just too busy today to look up its name.  It's another block for my project of Stickle blocks in 30's reproduction fabrics and muslin.

I am linking up with Connie at Freemotion by the River and Quilt Story as I do most weeks I have blocks to share. Both blog hops have pictures of pretty quilt blocks and other projects. I am also joining Work in Progress Wednesday - some colorful and interesting projects there!

Tuesday Quilt block Sept. 16

Happy Tuesday! It's a busy week for me.

I am enjoying putting up these Jane Stickle-style blocks in 1930's reproduction fabrics - there is something fresh about the colors against the muslin background.

For example, this shoo fly block.  Simple and classic.

Tuesday Quilt Block Sept. 9

It has been two shorter weeks back to school for this teaching mom and children. This is the first full M-F week and I hope I make it!  We have to get into the groove of things.

Back in the groove means time for a Tuesday Quilt block this morning.

This pattern is called envelope or broken dishes.  Not strictly a Jane Stickle block but an old classic that is part of this project done in 1930's and '40's reproduction fabrics.

I am linking up with Connie at Freemotion by the River and Quilt Story as I do most weeks I have blocks to share. Both blog hops have pictures of pretty quilt blocks and other projects. I am also joining Work in Progress Wednesday - some colorful and interesting projects there!

Tuesday Quilt block September 2

Back to school for this teaching mom. And it is very busy, and tiring!

But I'll take time from my preparations to post a Tuesday Quilt Block.

Another block from Jane Stickle's quilt, done in 1930's reproductions.

Tuesday Quilt block August 26

The children are in school. It's a quiet Tuesday morning. It must be time for another Tuesday quilt block.

And in a cheerful yellow too!

But this teaching mom must start back to school tomorrow!  But I will continue with Tuesday quilt blocks as I have a number to show.

Tuesday Quilt Block August 19

It's a sunny Summer day! And this mom is happy because the children start school tomorrow!

Let me share a quilt block, this one more complicated than last week's.

This Jane block is called Cabin Fever, and is A-9.  Careful paper piecing is needed for the center to look its best.

I am linking up with Connie at Freemotion by the River and Quilt Story as I do most weeks I have blocks to share. Both blog hops have of pictures of pretty quilt blocks and other projects. I am also joining Work in Progress Wednesday - some colorful and interesting projects there!

Tuesday Quilt block August 12

How the week are flying, this middle part of August, as school approaches! My children will be starting August 20.

Well it is Tuesday, so time for a Tuesday quilt block.

This block is called the Arrowhead and has some great graphic possibilities.  Strictly speaking it is not a Jane Stickle block, but the pattern is included in the Electric Quilt Jane Stickle computer package.  I am sure it will fit in well with the other blocks.  The EQ software has been so useful over time!  If you are thinking about a Dear Jane quilt I highly recommend it.

Tuesday Quilt Block August 5

Back after a short break! It is cool and cloudy this morning, not really great summer weather.

However, it's Tuesday, and time to share a Jane Stickle block.  Luckily she made some easy ones among the complicated pieced and applique blocks:

This is for my on going project of Jane Stickle blocks done in 1930's  and 1940's reproduction fabrics.  time to make some more!

Tuesday Quilt Project July 22

Today I do not have a quilt block, but I do have a work in progress.

I have been working on a new throw or nap quilt for myself this past month or so.  It is using actual fabric and feedsack scraps from the 30's and 40's that I have purchases from people on line and ebay.  The top is together and looks like:

I'll add that the muslin squares between the four patches is new.  All other fabric is old, but for the most part pretty sturdy.

I am now auditioning feedsack fabric for a simple 4 inch or so border.  This lavender print has risen to the top:

Tuesday quilt block, July 15

A big weather front blew in last night, and now it is a chilly 62 degrees at 9 AM! Chilly for July 15!

Time to keep up with m Tuesday quilt blocks. And time to make more!

This is A-5 of the Jane Stickle quilt, also known as Cathie's Campfire.  That aqua fabric is a bit bright!  This block turned out much better than the very first time I made this, I must say.

Tuesday quilt block June 3

It's a beautiful Spring morning! And it's Tuesday, so time to share another Springy quilt block.

A simple block in the style of Jane Stickle, called Uncle Homer.  It is often where many Jane-ites start, before attacking a block with over 30 pieces in it.

Tuesday quilt block May 27

It's a beautiful early morning and time to put up another quilt block, after a week away.

This one again is from my Jane Stickle quilt done with 1930's style reproduction fabrics.  It is A-2 or One two Buckle my shoe.

It's a bit fussy to do with paper piecing.  However I haven't tried it any other way.

Tuesday Quilt Block May 6

Spring is here, and it's time for warmer weather and flowers. I am really enjoying it, after our long cold winter!
The quilt blocks I have been sharing over the weeks fit right in, with their cheery pastel colors and funny prints.  Let's put one in this blog post now.

This one is pretty easy to piece!  It is called Meeting place (I think). A number of blocks in different colors, set side by side would be pretty, don't you think?

Z is for Z - I am done

Goodness! There were times I did not think I was going to make it this year. Slow periods of inspiration combined with more stuff to do at work slowed me down, and made me a bit late with some entries.

At this point I am wondering whether to participate next year.  Let me think about it a bit and write a later reflection post -- then decide.  Or, don't decide until next March 30!

Anyway, a good run this year, and I discovered a few new blogs of interest.
Cheers,

Y is for Year

And what do I mean by this?  Several things.

As I get older the years are slipping by faster.  I would not be the first human making this observation, but I find it to be very true.  In 2014 I try to stop and enjoy the moments, esp. with my children.  They are growing up so fast!

Even though many of us in the USA spend so much time indoors, we still respond to the rhythm of the seasons, and the turn of the year.  This year Spring is so much anticipated!  What a cold hard winter we have had. Another thought I had this year was to spend more time outside.  That hasn't happened yet, with all the work I bring home, but soon, soon, as the semester ends.

Tuesday Quilt block Apr. 29

Missed a week or two - wrapped up in the A to Z blogging challenge!

Back to sharing progress on my various quilting projects.  Everything seems to be a UFO: unfinished object.  Some day I will layer and quilt these!  Today, another block in the style of Jane Stickle, done in 1930's reproduction fabric:

This block is called Brandon's Star (I think).

X is for Xebec

X is a difficult letter to blog. I hope the blogging fairies don't punish me if I copy my entry from last year. (plus I liked last year's entry!)

*** *** *** *** ***
Finally, this morning, it hit me. What does this blogging month remind me of?

Why, when my daughter in kindergarten was putting together an ABC's book, and pasting in pictures of things that began with a certain letter.  There were challenges along the way, but all went well until we came to X.  I, of course, wanted my daughter to be different and inventive, and break away from the tired X-rays and Xylophones.  So I looked in the dictionary and found Xebec.  Its picture is below.

An older-style boat, used in the Mediterranean for trade.

But my daughter refused! "But mommy," she said, "That's a BOAT, and that starts with B!"

So off we went on the internet to find a picture of a xylophone.
