16 patch top

Post # 698!  Heading to 700!  I have been blogging here since 2004.

Today I am going to share with you a top that I pieced (except for borders) back in 2018 I think.  That year I was really into making quilts with real feedsack fabric.  I finally chose a border fabric and have the top ready for basting then quilting.

A simple 16 patch block, set on point.  A close-up of the fabric used:

(The muslin is new).  All vintage feedsack or vintage cotton fabric from antique fairs, antique malls, or ebay.
This quilt will finish at about 50 by 50 inches.  Now to cobble together some batting scraps and get to basting and quilting.  I'll do this one on my own sewing machine, as it's smaller.

Zigzag redux

Hello and welcome!
I enjoyed making my blue and white zig zag quilt so much I have decided to make it again, in a new color.
Source of my pattern: Red and white quilts.  And it's complex enough that I am staring at the instructions constantly.  I did my first one in indigo and cream - shown in this blog post.

Well the results were dynamic and graphic.  Why not make it again in red and cream?  Or using an antiqued fabric that I had ordered by accident? (Wrong color picked on line, and can't return cut yardage.)
So off to the quilt area ("studio") to cut strips of red and antique fabrics.  This is my progress so far:

And a close up of the red fabrics:

I have used reproduction red fabrics, mostly from 1860 - 1900 styles.  I want that old look.  This photo also shows the look of the antiqued background fabric.  I thought it a little dark but it works well against the red.

Wednesday: A new top

Hello and long time no see!  I have been on vacation and at a conference so no time to sew.  I am back and I have been in the sewing room this week.
The task:  use up 3 inch squares of leftover and unloved fabric to make a small top, using a pattern I have used before, from the Scraps Plus One book.

The blocks finish at 15 inches, and the quilt top is 60 inches square.

Two different blocks are made, and set in alternating fashion.   A close up of the unloved fabric:

I admit I cut some good fabric to add in there, to liven it up.  Some fabric is from old stash however.
The top will languish for now, as I have started cutting for a new project (of course!)  Red and beige strips for another zig zag quilt.
