... and it's almost done.
I've been on a run with reproduction fabrics that are from 1875 - 1910: reds, blues, light blues with small white figures, plus black and grays. See my last post for an example. Here is another top, blocks made in 2019:
The pattern is from a book called "Worth Doing Twice," which used old found tops, remade them, and prepared quilt instructions. The directions were a bit sketchy. Mine looks a lot like the picture in the book. It still lacks a 3 inch wide outer border of red. I ran out of the sashing fabric and substituted in some of the border fabric, which is very similar. I think that will add to the vintage, "make-do" look!
A close up of some of the fabrics used:
If you look closely you will note the two different red fabrics used. Love the pink and black together.
However, I have a short attention span, as I have already flitted to a new project, using very different fabrics! More about that next week.

Snow Day now a top
My project I described in my last post is now a top! I have more information on my source for the pattern.
It's from a book called Big Book of Civil War Quilts published by Martingale. It is a pattern called Snow Day by Gayle Bong. She set her blocks on point; I am setting them straight with a gray mourning print fabric. I added a narrow red border to brighten up the top and a wider border of black fabric with a small neat pattern.
Here is a close up of a corner, showing the border fabric:
I think I will take this to a local long arm quilter for quilting. I still have quite a bit of the border fabric for straight grain binding.

A new start for 2020
Isn't it typical? A quilter has plenty of UFO's (un-finished objects) but the lure of a new start keeps calling. After shopping at a distant quilt store for reproduction fabrics, I looked for a pattern to use them up. And found one is book collecting a variety of Civil War inspired quilt patterns.
I am using repro fabrics that appear to be from 1890 - 1900 however. Shirtings, blues, reds, cranberry. The pattern and directions are by Gayle Bong.
Here are the blocks, finishing at 9.5 inches, laid out on the carpet, carpet between each block, to stand in for sashing:
And close ups of conversational prints, one featuring cats, the other flies (!!):
I plan on making this a lap robe. I have one in Christmas fabrics; I would like one for the rest of the year.

First top for 2020
I love vacations, I can get so much done in my sewing area.
I sewed jelly rolls strips and cross cut them on Dec. 31 (package of tropical colored strips purchased recently). Then finished the sewing of corners and blocks together for a top in the New Year.
The pattern I am using is Corner Kick, available here: https://graybarndesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Corner-Kick-06-06-19.pdf.
The top currently is 50 by 60 inches without borders. It may stay this size! This took one package of 40 jelly roll strips and a fabric for the corner triangles, which come together to form a square. I need some more yellow batik fabric for the binding.
May you and I do some great quilting in the new year of 2020!
