Mini quilt for a swap and other progress

Good day, and welcome to my blog.

I have a project in progress to share.  I signed up for Lori's Humble mini-quilt swap, and I am partly along in the machine quilting of this little one:

The broken dishes pattern, and note that pinwheels appear when you set the blocks side by side.  The mini or doll quilts are supposed to look as if they time traveled from the past.  I am imagining a woman in 1890, using leftover squares and bits from a recent quilt project, making a doll quilt for her daughter.

Other progress:  Three at a time quilt project is now a top.  This is a picture showing more progress:

And growing up odd is now a top:

Growing Up Odd continues

Hello and welcome to my continuing parade of UFO's (unfinished objects).

This weekend it was the turn for my Growing Up Odd project to advance.  I completed 4 blocks and laid them on the floor with sashing material in between, to see how they look.  The little dark area in the center is the carpet, showing through where my sashing  strips don't quite meet.

The 4 blocks are not sewn together yet.  I am not sure I like this layout.

The pattern is from the Wedding Dress Blue blog.  She rotated her blocks, and I may do so too.  Her top was 90 by 90 inches (25 blocks)  but I have 12 blocks for a much smaller quilt - a throw size.  This week's plans are to finish the other 8 blocks, and lay them out to try to find a pleasing arrangement.

I of course have many 2 inch squares of fabric left over - I cut too much!

Growing Up Odd begins

Good Day, and welcome to my blog!

In the waning days of the old year, I cut 2 inch squares for yet another project.  Yes, a UFO, officially as of Jan. 1 2021.  This is a project I've had my eye on for awhile, the Growing Up Odd quilt pattern, on the Wedding Dress Blue blog.  Since I was making quilts with civil war and 1800's reproduction fabrics, I cut a few extra squares for this project.  It looks like a lot of squares in the box, but boy, a lot are used in this pattern.

Below, my beginning segments, laid out on the back of a quilt, not sewn together just yet:

This makes one block when sewn together with sashing.  I'll be using unbleached muslin left over from quilt backing.  Yes a bit of brown and pink, a little yellow, not much green.  That's what I have been using lately.  This will be a long term, pick up project, in between other projects.  I may cut some more fabric from stash too!
