Tuesday Quilt block May 8

A famous block in the quilt by Jane Stickle:

This is G-6: Papa's Star.  It's famous as being notoriously difficult to sew.  I used paper piecing and yes that star in the middle is tiny!  And, keep that pentagon in the center in the correct orientation.  I found out in doing my first one that all sides of the pentagon are NOT the same.  Remember the whole block finishes at 4.5 inches square.

I am linking up with Connie at Quilting by the River and with Quilt Story today.

Oh wow, I remember Papa's Star! A group of us made DJ quilts, and my friend Joanne made the first G6. She moaned, cried, fussed, resewed, and said a few choice words... the rest of us were terrified to even start it! I always tell people that the tiny star in the middle was not hard at all - it was getting the pentagon correct on the outside that caused nightmares :*) You've done a great job on yours - congratulations!!!

That looks like a very difficult paper pieced block that you executed beautifully! :)

OMGosh what a tiny block. You did such a wonderful job of piecing it. Congrats to you. Are you making the whole DJ quilt? Can't wait to see it.
