Quilt done: Contessa pattern in bright batiks, for Mom

Good day, and welcome to my blog.

I am a reporting a finish from this year, a project I started in August and blogged about HERE.

It is a pattern called Contessa and I chose it and the fabrics in consultation with my mom, as the quilt is for her.

The overall quilt, after washing:

I washed it with 5 color catchers and it's a good thing too, as the catchers were bright pink when they came out of the washer.

A view of the backing:

I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the long arm quilting.  The top thread over all the quilt is too tight and is pulling the bottom thread up to the top.  On the points of the leaves in the quilting pattern, it's pulling the bottom thread way up.

Look at the leaf shape nearest the center of the picture.

There is not much to be done about it now.  I have added the binding (same eggplant batik as the outer border) by machine.  Then washed it as noted above.

What a colorful quilt! So sorry about the quilting having some issues. :( None the less, it has the same amount of love sewn into it. Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell.

Lovely quilt! Your mother is going to just love it! So bright and happy. I'd be disappointed howewver, with that quilting too and would complain to my longarmer. In a perfect world, she should rip it all out and do it again, this time checking her tension. At the very least, she should give you a complete refund.

Your version of Contessa is beautiful in those sunset colors. Wow! Mine isn't quilted yet, but not nearly as colorful.

Stunning quilt and colors, too!!! Did the quilting pull into recess with the washing? I agree with Jennifer--the quilter should give you a full refund.

Great colors and a very pretty quilt. I love those color grabbers and I save them all. I have used them in art quilts.

So sad about the tension issues. You will have to let us know if the longarmer said anything about it or gave you a refund. In spite of the tension, it is a beautiful finish which your mom will adore and treasure!
