Scrappy Mountain Majesties Finish

 Good Day, and welcome to my blog!  I have a finish to report.

I blogged in 2020 about starting Scrappy Mountain Majesties by Bonnie Hunter. (see that post for some advice.)  I got this project to a top and there it sat.  Well time moves on and it's time for a finish.  I quilted this myself, in the ditch, on my trusty old Kenmore sewing machine.

Many vintage fabrics in here, including the border and binding, which is at least 30 years old.  Speaking of binding, I did not have enough and added in another Christmas fabric for the last few inches.

One starts with  2 large squares of fabric for each block, but following Bonnie's directions, you slice and rearrange the fabric.  Sometimes a striped fabric will be going in different directions:

Or a novelty fabric will be nearly unrecognizable, like these rainforest frogs:

But's it's a fun pattern, and looks more complicated than it really is.  Finished size is about 54 inches by 73 inches, a good lap quilt size.  No home for this one yet.

Scrappy Mountain Majesty is a top

As described in this post, I was at loose ends and cast about for a project.  Well, I worked on the blocks and I can now report that Scrappy Mountains Majesty (pattern by Bonnie Hunter) is now a top:

Fabric is from 10 or more years ago, and includes flowery calicos, blenders, and 1930's reproductions:

I also found that I had pre-cut squares of fabric suitable for watercolor quilts - remember them?  And the fabric for the border had been in the stash for a very long time, maybe 20 -30 years?  I have enough for a border and matching binding.

The border is black with small holly design.
I think I will quilt this myself on my trusty old Kenmore.  It is throw sized.  No rush however, no plans for this one.

New start: Scrappy Mountains Majesty

My previous quilt finished, I was at loose ends.  What to do?  I thought about squares I had cut for a project over 10 years ago, and sought them out.  And searched and searched.  Finally I unearthed a set of 8.5 inch squares prepped for Scrappy Mountain Majesties by Bonnie Hunter, found on her Free patterns page.  I had even printed out the instructions!

Mostly green and light neutral fabrics, a few reds, and I think I was thinking of a Christmas quilt.  Well, not much red, so let's sew up some green and white blocks:

Now, they are not sewn together yet.  I have tried two layouts of the blocks and I like this one.
This pattern works up nicely but I would recommend:
1. reading through the directions all the way, carefully,
2. and making a test block or two, being sure you know the method.

I had no problems, but I was glad I made a test block before starting making the blocks two at a time.  I'll continue on these blocks this week and next, and it looks like I have enough squares cut for a lap quilt.
