Tuesday Quilt block

I am continuing in my series of time warp stars in this post.
 This week is a fabric type rather than a color - foulards. Think of patterns used in a conservative looking tie.

A pattern like this, not quite a polka dot, but with this kind of repeat, counts.  So does the next pattern:

F is for the Flying Geese block

The Flying Geese block has several variations - one is shown below.

The dark triangles are the "geese" and the light triangles are the sky or background.  

This is the beginning of a project to use up my scraps and fat quarters of fabric that is "old" (1990's vintage) and that I don't like so much anymore.  I paid good money for that fabric, in the day, and I don't want to throw it away.  I have enough triangles cut to make a good sized quilt!

E is for Electric Quilt

...And specifically, the Electric Quilt Company, and the software they produce.

This is software for designing quilts, and I love it.  (Yes there is a significant market for this product - there are many quilters, around the world now.) There are many traditional blocks and variations in their block libraries, and one can choose blocks and play around with how they will look in different settings - without pulling out graph paper, like in "the old days."  When you have chosen a block, there are accurate cutting instructions: either by rotary cutting, templates, or paper-piecing.  There are plenty of helps, which are actually helpful!

I first starting using Electric Quilt software when starting my quilt in the style of Jane Stickle.  Such tiny blocks (4.5 inches) and mostly designs original to Jane!  I purchased the Dear Jane (R) software for myself for Christmas one year and spent that vacation going through the tutorials.  I would not have finished the blocks and triangles without it. Worth every penny.

D is for the double 4 patch block

Running a little late today.  Onward to the letter D.

This is the double 4 patch block, done in reproduction Civil war era fabrics.  With a number of these blocks set together, the light squares make a sort of "path" through the quilt.

I made this quilt square myself, and it finishes at 4 inches.  I feel a little uncomfortable putting others' quilts or diagrams up here - they are not my work.  So I guess after this month is done I'll have a little collection of quilt blocks that could make a baby quilt!
