How big a quilt? I have an answer

Two weeks ago I posed a question:  Given a shoe box stuffed with 2.5 inch strips, and a plan to make a Crayon box quilt, how big a quilt would I be able to make?

I added a number of 4.5 inch plain squares, called for by the pattern by Bonnie Hunter.

I have sewn the strips together, and partially assembled the top:

As to the answer: 49 12 inch blocks, set 7 by 7,  for a 84 by 84 inch quilt, not counting any added borders.  All that came from this box:

And this is what is left:

Not quite enough (or with enough variety) to make 7 more blocks, and therefore a rectangular quilt.

Still, 84 by 84 inches, from one shoe box.  I shudder when I think of the size of my stash.

How big a quilt can I make?

A few weeks ago I had a cutting party and cut many strips and squares to use up scraps and fat quarters of Civil War reproduction fabrics.  They were overflowing a number of clear shoe boxes.  In the box below I have lots of strips 2.5 inches wide, and 12 to 20 inches long.  I started trimming these to the sizes needed for a Crayon Box quilt (pattern by Bonnie Hunter, on her Quiltville web page.)

The trimmed strips are at the bottom.  Now you may say, "Hey, Viridian, didn't you just make a Crayon Box Quilt using 30's reproduction fabrics?"  Well, yes I did.  But I like this pattern and it uses up so much fabric!  If your fabric has a theme and you have many different fabrics, it turns out so well!

My question:  Above is standard shoe box, filled with 2.5 inch strips.  How big a quilt can I make from this cut fabric?  I have already cut quite a few block pieces and the box is only slightly less full.  I am thinking a full or a queen sized quilt.  Amazing how big a top once can get from a shoe box of fabric.  I'll keep track of this project and report back when I have a finished top.

School has started and I haven't been able to work on other current projects, such as the double 4 patch.  Maybe next week.
