Tuesday Quilt block June 4

And it's time to get back into the quilt and sewing studio, because these two are the last of the blocks I have done and scanned! Here are two more blocks that finish at 3 inches, for my Miniature Madness quilt.

The basket on the left is made of fabric that feels thin.  I may redo the block.  On the right is one of the stars from the center of the Jane Stickle quilt, done in feedsack fabric.

I am linking up with Connie at Freemotion by the River and Quilt Story as I do most weeks I have blocks to share. Both blog hops have of pictures of pretty quilt blocks and other projects. I also hope to join Work in Progress Wednesday - if I remember to hook up!

Tuesday Quilt Block May 21

It's a beautiful sunny Tuesday here in the American Midwest, and it's time for another quilt block.

These are two Miniature Madness blocks that I finished back in March!  Work has been very busy since then.  They are simple blocks, some classic, some based on Jane Stickle patterns.  Why simple? Because they finish at 3 inches square!  That is real feedsack fabric in those blocks.  I have over 60 of these little blocks now.  Still mulling over how to set them together.

And I really should be finishing the triangles and corners of my big Dear Jane quilt - I am so close to finishing.  Is it strange that I don't want the process to end?

Back to Miniature Madness!

In these last 2 weeks of summer, I am pushing hard on my "Jane" projects, because it's back to school soon.  I even pulled out some miniature madness blocks and finished them.

From left to right: bouquet, flying geese, and a pointy star.  These patterns can be found in the classic pieced patterns in Electric Quilt 5 or 6.  The Dear Jane software also has some classic pieced blocks in the library.

Each block is 3.5 inches across,  unfinished, and those are real vintage feedsacks and fabrics in there.

My numbers now are:

1800's Christmas Jane 143, 45, 1, 4394

Pretty in Pink Jane 101, 36, 0, 3178

Miniature Madness from last week

I've been out of commission for almost a week - not feeling normal. I am almost back in shape so a post for my few followers. 2 weeks ago I was going on my Dear Jane blocks. So much energy that I even returned to my miniature madness blocks, which I hadn't touched since April. On the left: a broken dishes block in real pink feed sack; on the right, the 5 and dime block in 40's or 50's fabric. these both will finish at 3 inches square.

Busy!

Can you tell it's my vacation?
Top: most recent Dear Jane blocks, for Xmas Quilt and Pretty in Pink Quilt projects. Stability and Lakota Sioux.
Next: three blocks (finishing at 3 inches) that R.D., the crazy 2-inch miniaturist, sent to me. Aren't they lovely? She did the applique by back basting. Thank you so much R.D.! I would not attempt applique on this scale myself.
Last: 2 blocks in 2 inch size, for R.D. That is real vintage fabric there! I just won some awesome stuff off ebay, and there are the first two blocks.

Back again

Very busy and distracted these last few weeks.
Winter is ending, Spring is coming, and my hands are healed. Therefore, two Jane Stickle blocks that involve some applique: Pouf, and Rick's Volleyball net. I just love the fabric used in Pouf. And the printed plaid in Rick's Volleyball net is a repro fabric that I have saved for at least 15 years. The corners don't match but I say - I wanted it that way!
Miniature Madness: Walter's Place and Pete's Paintbox in busy prints, both vintage fabric.

Happy National Quilting Day (Yesterday!)

And I finished seven blocks - this set are the March Miniature Madness blocks. :-) All in vintage fabric or vintage feedsack. I discovered an old stash, deep in my sewing room. Small pieces, but workable for these blocks.

Found another Mini-Jane!

OK a quick posting.
Following links on some of my favorite blogs, I found Mary Ann's Corner. She has been working on a mini Jane with 2.5 inch blocks! Her is her blog entry with a photo.
And she is done with piecing of her full-sized Dear Jane quilt and is now basting it. Hurrah for Mary Ann in Denmark.

Ten more miniature blocks

Here is the latest set, last one finished this AM. I am up to 35 blocks! I really like the Electric Quilt software. The foundation pattterns are SO useful. I am also using quite a few of the alternate blocks that are included in the Dear Jane software. Many are classic patterns. (note Churn Dash and Shoo Fly). Some work very well in this small format - like the lower right block in blue feedsack - a windmill design that I like very much. Fabric placement can change the look of a block too. There are 2 here that are the same pattern - can you tell which ones?

I've "met" someone more insane than me.

She shall only be known as R.D.

She saw my posting on a yahoo group about Dear Jane quilts, and we have been emailing back and forth. So I haven't actually "met" her, but we are connected.

R.D. is making Dear Jane blocks that finish at 2 inches square. She even sent photos of some ONE inch squares (I wonder if they are faked - you can do anything with photoshop. Just kidding!) And we will exchange blocks. The photo below is of the first four I've made, using her background fabric:

After finishing these I took a look at the original blocks in the book by Brenda Papadakis. They looked monstrouly huge!
Now, to start our exchange, R.D. sent me a 3 inch block. What does she send? G-6, Papa's star! Showoff. It is in the picture below, flanked by two I finished today:

More Madness!

Is there any help for me? Am I totally around the bend? Here are 9 more blocks. You may not be able to tell but the birds in air block fabric has dancing children and the old lady who lived in a shoe. Cut up so small, it's hard to tell.

Miniature Madness!

The blocks in the original quilt by Jane Stickle, and as drawn and published by Brenda Papadakis in her book "Dear Jane" finish at 4.5 inches. This is considered small, tiny even. Over Christmas break I got the strange idea of making a few blocks even smaller, so that these 4.5 inch blocks would look large. Say, 3 inches, finished.

And, in a switch from my Civil War reproduction fabrics, maybe use 30's and 40's reproduction fabrics. Or... the blocks are so small, I could use my actual precious pieces of 30's and 40's fabrics and feedsacks.

Oh no! I am truly insane now. I have two other Jane-related quilts in progress! But these blocks are so cute...

A note on the blocks: I am using the Dear Jane software from the Electric Quilt company to size these blocks to 3 inches, finished. Thank you to the designers and publishers of this great product. If you have the $ I recommend this software.
