Vintage Thingy Thursday: a delicate hankie

Vintage Thingy Thursday is hosted by Coloradolady. Please visit her site and see who is playing along this week.

This is just a corner of a one of my many vintage hankies. I must admit yes, I do collect them!!! Coloradolady's post this week is about vintage purses. A lady would always have a pretty hankie in her purse, of course.

This one is delicate lawn fabric, a pretty lace border, and a most amazing petit point and embroidered group of fruit and flowers. Who could use this on a runny nose, yours or your child's? Maybe I would dab a tear from my eye, hearing a moving story.

Happy VTT, Viridian

  1. No, that gorgeous hankie should never ever be used to blow a nose! It's just too lovely for that!
    Happy VTT!

  3. I would never use that on my nose. Actually, I can't stand the thought of actually using any hankies.

  6. Vintage hankies are so sweet. I think dabbing a tear at a wedding would be an excellent time to use a hankie.

  7. Love vintage hankies! I just made a baptismal bonnet for my youngest grand daughter last Saturday, from one of her great grandmother's hankies. They are so neat! Thanks for stopping by and looking at my hoosier, I'm so glad to meet you! Come visit again sometime, and have a blessed week.

  8. I love your hankie, and these have become so hard to come by for a good price. I have several....but I'd sure like to have a few more! I love the delicate look of this one! And I don't think I'd want to use it! Have a great VTT!

  9. I don't think I'd ever use that hankie because I'd be afraid of ruining it while washing! I love that it's both lacy and embroidered!

  10. What a gorgeous hanky. I think these kinds of hankies were to carry and perhaps drop at the appropriate time ;-)

  12. Lovely hanky! I am constantly looking out for handkerchiefs at yard sales, but don't find them that often.

  14. I agree, much too pretty to ever come in contact with a runny nose. I love vintage hankies! I once had one with Saturdays Child - or is it Mondays Child? LOL Could be Sundays . . . I give

  15. I was given a similar delicate hankie with blue flowers. I used it on my wedding day back in 1980 for something old and something new, something borrowed, something blue. Thanks for posting yours.

  17. Yep definitely not for such pedestrian uses, more like what Jocelyn suggested :)

  18. So pretty :) I have a few handkerchiefs that belonged to my great grandmother. I'm thinking of sewing patchwork quilts for my daughters and using one handkerchief per quilt as a special square. We'll see... :)

    Have a great night!

  19. What a sweet little hankie. I admit that I have a collection of hankies...I enjoy using them as napkins for tea parties/coffees. I have used and laundered mine for 16 years now. :) Have a wonderful day!
