Good day, and welcome to my blog. It's a seasonally cool morning in the American Midwest.
I have a finish to report! My guideline is to finish quilt projects as well as start new ones, and I have started several new ones this summer and fall. I pulled out this top from 2021. The pattern (Three at a Time) is from Moda's Sew a Jelly roll webpage. They put up free patterns for the yearly "Sew a Jelly Roll" day, in September.
It is 64 by 66 inches in size, takes one jelly roll, and some yardage of a background fabric, in this case a dark charcoal gray.
Start of project (March 2021) is described in this blog post.
A close up:
I quilted in the ditch with a variegated King Tut thread on top. The colors were close to the jelly roll colors. The quilting lines ended up being about 4 inches apart.
The back is cobbled together from several offcuts from other quilts, but all the same fabric. The batting is also put together from leftovers from previous projects. I straighten the edges of the batting, overlap the pieces by 1/8 inch or so, and sew over the join with a long and wide zigzag stitch on my sewing machine. This was good because the quilting lines were some distance apart. I could have just laid out the batting pieces with a slight overlap, pin and then quilt, but they would likely shift and make gaps.
The binding is a different dark charcoal gray fabric. (I could not find any of the background fabric for binding.) You cannot tell from more than 3 feet away.
Why is the pattern called Three at a Time, when the columns have groups of 6 fabric bars? I really don't know.

Love your Three at a Time quilt. I've added the instructions to my computer....I have a ridiculous number of batiks and might use them for this quilt. I like the dark background too. Terrific job and thanks for the pattern source.
Your quilt is very striking! I like the background paired with this jelly roll! :)
Very pretty!!
This is a very cool finish, Viridian.
I love it, the dark background lets the pretty colors shine bright. Thanks for sharing where to find the pattern.
Yesterday, I volunteered to lead a session at our guild about Jelly Rolls. Your post was so timely as the Moda site was ntm. I have lots of patterns to share now!!!
What a striking finish! That dark background sure brings out the vibrant colors of the piecing!

What a great finish, Viridian. I love how those colors pop on the charcoal background! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings.
That really turned out great. I love the colors! Cool that you found variegated thread to coordinate!
The charcoal background fabric really makes the other fabrics pop. This is a beautiful quilt.
Congratulations on the finish! Your quilt is beautiful, I love these joyful batiks, and what a lovely contrast with the background! Bravo! Thank you for sharing your lovely finish and linking up.
Such an upbeat jelly roll. Those colors are scrumptious. The dark gray makes them shine, like stained glass at night.
