Vintage thingy thursday

Boy, you have to be quick with this, esp. when Coloradolady starts her meme on Wednesday night! I've fixed my blog so that it should be easier to leave comments. I always love comments.
I recently went to an antique mall, one of those with "450 dealers" or some large amount. I picked up 16 grandmother's flower garden blocks for $12.95. Note the fussy cutting of some hexagons in the top picture. the same fabric is used in the center of each flower. Yet someone did not finish. Gosh, I have enough UFO's (Un-Finished Objects) of mine own, now I am collecting someone else's. But I could not pass them by.
Note in the last picture (enlarge if you can) the very fine handwork done by this unknown woman. Technically this is the whip stitch.
See Coloradolady's site for more vintage thingies!

  3. I know it is a bit early, but I always have to take in consideration that on the other side of the globe, it is already Thursday...and I have some gals who want to participate. When I took over VTT, that was how the former host did it, and I have just kept with the program...it is confusing at times, I know....feels like I'm rushing the week....but a reason to the madness! LOL

Now...about those blocks. They are lovely, and I find it so hard to believe someone tossed these or sold them after all the work that goes into making them. I have some too I purchased and plan to try an put together a quilt.

    Have a great VTT!

  4. Hmm, let me know when you figure out how to piece them together-I have a set of G/Ma's Garden from eBay-& a set of Dresden plates-this year I am committed to knocking out most of my own UFO's,#16 coming up!

  8. Those quilted flowers are so amazing...I wonder if there is a way to fix each onto some type of wire "stem" and stick them in a vase...how cute would that be? Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  9. Wait! i just thought of something else...How about attaching them onto a cord and making them into a banner? You could even hang it outside on a fence in the summer!
