Good day, and welcome to my blog. Thanks for stopping by.
Last week I wrote about starting a quilt project (This and That, from Quilted Twins) in warm colors. This week I progressed on that project.
I sewed 72 16-patch blocks in assorted colors. I measured, trimmed, and squared them up.
Luckily, they were the right size or only slightly larger than 6.5 inches, unfinished. I then started making 'snowball' blocks on 36 of these blocks:
I am using Kona Snow fabric. I wish I had a pale pale yellow but I am not going to buy more fabric for this project.
As mentioned before, I cut into my scraps and fat quarters with wild abandon, not counting. This habit backfired on this project as I have lots of strips and squares left over:
Yes that's the leftovers after making 72 blocks. I must think of another pattern to use them up. There is quite a bit left.
To do: Finish the snowball blocks. Cut sashing and cornerstones, and start assembly of the quilt top.

A lovely palette! The leftover look like the beginnings of a stack of potato chip units to me....
yes indeed gorgeous colors....on a sofa near a cozy fireplace....oh yes!
Such pretty colors! Hopefully you'll find a project for the scraps. They are so pretty. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

That is going to be one great fall quilt.
I’ve made a couple.quilts using Quilted Twins patterns and they were easy to follow….but using a variety of fabrics meant I, too, had lefter over strips….one quilt begets another 😂😂.
I think snowballing these blocks is adding a great touch. I think it will be awesome!
I love the fabrics. I look forward to seeing the assembled quilt.
Those oranges are luscious and those yellows just glow! I too look forward to seeing your assembled quilt!
Beautiful bright blocks! What a good idea to snowball the corners.
Scraps just have a way of doing that--multiplying. I'm sure you'll find another project. I like your use of snow. It's one of my favorite whites--just warm enough with your oranges.
What a great looking start. I'm looking forward to see what the finished project looks like. I agree with Nann -- it they are 2.5" strips they would make a great Potato Chip block mixed in with neutrals. And, the good news is they are already cut! Yea!
Such pretty blocks with all the shades of orange. I find all kinds of uses for 2.5" strips - currently making Ticker Tape blocks with them.
Your progress is good! Every little bit counts. I'm currently in "don't buy more fabric" mode as well. Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell.
Go you for using what you have. I think its the perfect choice
Hi Viridian, thanks so much for linking up to I Quilted This. I love your snowball blocks - and so many scraps to work with again! That's going to make a lovely quilt.
