Hello and welcome to my blog.
I was busy this weekend working on my Over and Down Under project, but it's not finished and not at a place to show the world.
Instead I will show a small finish. In cleaning my upstairs sewing space, I uncovered a small experimental piece that must date back to before 2009. I didn't discuss it on this blog, which I started in 2009. I sewed bits and pieces of 1930's reproduction fabric together in a crazy quilt fashion. I then embroidered the seam lines with the special stitches on my trusty old Kenmore. This imitated a style seen in the 1930's, where a crazy block would be embroidered by hand with 'chicken scratch' embroidery.
The quiltlet is 15 by 14.5 inches. I layered it, machine sewed a few lines of quilting to hold it together, and bound it on Sunday.
And a close up of the fabrics and stitching:
It's not to everyone's taste but it was a neat experiment.

Cute mini crazy quilt! I love the black stitches, and the colorfull patches!
Congratulations on another project done! It's amazing what I find when I clean up my sewing studio. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. https://www.inquiringquilter.com/questions/2025/10/01/wednesday-wait-loss-452
Very nice mini quilt! It almost looks like stained glass. Well done.
That looks like it was fun! Such cute fabrics. It's always good to pull out something that's been hanging around for awhile and finish it up!
Machines have so many fascinating stitches and this piece is great place to show one of those off. The choice of high contrast black thread shows off both the reproduction fabric and the stitching.
What a fun finish. . .mo matter how long ago it was started! I love the machine stitches added as it gives great dimension to the piece.
I love this! It has a real vintage feel.
Your mini crazy quilt is adorable, Viridian. Great job. Have a great week. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings.
Your little crazy quilt is gorgeous. All those embroidered lines in black dancing along each seam is inspired.
Love it!! Crazy quilt style - that is so cute !
