Do you know this block pattern?

I was messing around in my reproduction fabrics and came up with this pattern.  Two featured colors, in this case red and blue, make a chain across the block.

The off-white fabric is the border, with the cornerstones, and is sewn on all four sides.

Have you seen this pattern before?  Surely I haven't designed a new quilt block.  Please let me know the block name and source in the comments, or send to me at viridian61 at yahoo dot com.

The block size is 10 inches squares, finished, and the sashing is 2 inches wide, finished.

And a postscript:  I am making more blocks, to make a twin sized quilt.  I ordered more red fabrics with a white design on it to add to my reds, as I was getting low.  Three fabrics were described as "red" and looked red on my computer monitor.  This is what arrived:

The fabric on the left is just what I wanted.  The other two fabrics?  More of a cranberry color.  Let me emphasize this is NOT the online quilt store's problem.  It is a warning about your computer monitor: colors may vary!

  1. I rarely order fabrics online because I worry the colors don't look true. I'm fortunate to be in an area with a multitude of fabric/quilt stores. Your newest quilt block is a good use of scraps, I have no idea what the name of the block is. Happy stitching!

  3. I'm quite sure the name of that block is "Veridian's Chain". I don't shop for fabric on line for the same reason as Gretchen. I also have a big enough hoard that I am not in danger of ever running out. Quilt on, dear lady.

  4. Cute block and a great way to use up even the smallest scraps. Sorry about the fabric colors. I don't buy online because there are so many shops nearby, so I'm lucky that way. Thanks for the warning though! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

  5. What a great scrappy block - I like how it uses a bunch of different sized scrap.

  6. I don't know the name of your block. Many of them will make into a great quilt! I hear you about ordering fabric online. . .you just never really know until they arrive. What will you do with these fabrics now?

  7. Love your new block and Veridian Chain sounds perfect to me. I shop online A LOT because there's nothing close by. Don't believe it is a "you" problem. If they are too lazy to describe their reds better than just red, don't buy there. There's so many words that can describe red accurately: they just need to learn English. I'm sorry you were taken for a fool in this deal. Can you return them? Good luck. ;^)

  8. Viridian's chain it may be then. No I can't return cut fabric yardage. Time to think of another project.

  9. Your quilt block caught my eye at Nina-Marie's link up. It's so pretty as it highlights the center blocks so wonderfully!

  10. Interesting block! The various size of squares keeps ones brain guessing. Happy Stitching.

  11. I would say this block is called postage stamp, BUT the four patches in the center are larger than the outside patches, so I think Viridian's Chain is great! Thanks for joining us at MM.

  12. Cool -- it sounds like you've designed a new block... great name too. I seldom try to buy fabric that matches something I have on line. Although recently I took a risk and bought 4 pieces. Surprise, surprise they did work together.

  13. I saw this on Melva's blog and had to rush over here. LOVE your block! I think Viridian's Chain is a beautiful and perfect name for it. So the sashing and the pieces around the 4-patch are 2-1/2 inch pieces? And the 4-patch pieces - are they 3-1/2 inch? I love the way you designed it to make a chain each way through the middle of the block. Thank you for sharing it!
